An AI workshop for business is a short, high-intensity learning event. Half a day to two days. Hands-on. Cohort-based. Led by someone who has built the thing they're teaching. The output is a team that can do something specific on Monday morning that they couldn't do on Friday afternoon.
That's it. That's the product.
What a workshop is not:
A change management program
A licence rollout strategy
A cultural transformation
A substitute for governance, policy, or technical enablement
A way to build deep specialist capability (that's what custom programs are for)
The category error most enterprises make is buying a workshop to solve a problem that isn't a training problem. If your Copilot usage is 12% because nobody has integrated it into the actual workflows people get paid to do, no workshop will move that number sustainably. You'll get a two-week bump and then drift back to baseline. We've watched this happen often enough that we now refuse to sell workshops without first asking what the bigger picture looks like.
When a workshop is the right answer
A workshop is the right tool when three conditions are true.
One: the capability gap is genuinely a skills gap. People know the tool exists. They have access. They want to use it. They just don't know how. This is a teachable moment. A good workshop closes the gap quickly and the new behaviour sticks because it's immediately useful.
Two: the surrounding system is ready. Licences are provisioned. Data access is sorted. Acceptable use policies exist. Someone, somewhere, has thought about which use cases are sanctioned and which aren't. The workshop slots into a system that's ready to receive trained users.
Three: the goal is fluency at scale, not depth in a few. Workshops are wide and shallow by design. If you need 500 people to be reasonably competent with a tool, that's a workshop. If you need 20 engineers to architect agentic systems for production, that's a custom program or an implementation sprint.
When all three conditions hold, a one-day workshop can do more for an organisation than a six-month e-learning program. We've seen it. We've also seen what happens when one of the three conditions isn't met, and it isn't pretty.
When a workshop isn't the answer
If your AI rollout is stuck at low adoption, there are usually four causes. Only one is solved by training.
Process redesign hasn't happened. People can't slot the tool into work that wasn't designed for it. Solution: workflow consulting, not training.
Governance is unclear. Staff don't know what they're allowed to do with the tool. Solution: policy work and clear communication, not training.
Leadership isn't using it. If executives don't model AI use, neither will their teams. Solution: executive coaching and sponsorship, not training.
People genuinely don't know how. Solution: training. This is the workshop's job.

The four workshop tracks Better People runs
We've consolidated the things enterprises actually need into four tracks. Each is built around a specific capability gap we see repeatedly across Australian organisations. Each starts at $2,500 and is delivered live, in-person or virtual, by someone who has built and shipped what they're teaching.
Track one: Microsoft Copilot training
The most common request we get. A bank, a retailer, a government agency, a health network: they've licensed Microsoft 365 Copilot, and adoption is underwhelming.
What we teach in a Copilot workshop isn't "how to use Copilot." That's a help article. What we teach is how to think about your work in a way that makes Copilot useful. The shift is from "what can I ask the bot?" to "which parts of my job are now AI-assisted, and what does that mean for how I prepare, draft, review, and decide?"
By the end of the day, participants have:
Mapped their five most time-consuming work tasks
Built and tested prompt patterns for each
Practised Copilot across Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint with real data (sanitised or sandboxed)
Identified at least three workflows they will change permanently
The honest measure of success isn't satisfaction scores. It's whether the team's licence utilisation is materially higher 60 days later. Microsoft's own Work Trend Index data shows that the gap between Copilot users who report meaningful productivity gains and those who don't is almost entirely explained by training quality and integration into daily work. The tool is the same. The outcomes diverge sharply based on what happens around it.
Track two: Google Gemini training
For organisations on Google Workspace, the equivalent challenge with Gemini. Different tool, similar shape of problem.
Gemini's strength sits in its native integration with Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, and Drive, plus its long context window for working across multiple documents at once. Most users never touch any of that. They paste a prompt into the chat sidebar, get a generic answer, and conclude the tool isn't impressive. They're not wrong. Used like a chatbot, Gemini is a chatbot.
A good Google Gemini training workshop teaches people to use it as a context-aware collaborator across their existing files. The "@" reference, the cross-document analysis, the data extraction from Sheets, the briefing generation from a folder of meeting notes. This is where the productivity actually lives.
We run this track most often for marketing teams, professional services firms, and government agencies running on Workspace. The workshop format works well here because Gemini's surface area is wide enough to be intimidating and shallow enough per feature to teach in a day.
Track three: AI Scam Awareness
This one matters more than people realise.
Voice cloning, deepfake video, AI-generated phishing, synthetic identity fraud. The threat surface for Australian businesses changed in 2024 and accelerated in 2025. The ACCC's Scamwatch data shows scam losses to Australian businesses and individuals running into the billions, with a growing share involving AI-generated content. The Australian Signals Directorate's Annual Cyber Threat Report has flagged AI-enabled social engineering as a rising risk.
Most security awareness training was built for a world where dodgy emails had typos and Nigerian princes. That world is gone. A modern AI scam awareness workshop teaches staff to:
Recognise voice clones (and what verification protocols actually work)
Spot deepfake video in real time, with current tells
Identify AI-generated phishing across email, SMS, and chat
Apply out-of-band verification for any high-stakes request
Understand why the old advice ("look for typos") is now actively dangerous
This isn't an IT workshop. It's a business workshop. The CFO who approved a $137 million transfer based on a deepfake video call (Arup, 2024, reported by the FT) didn't lose that money because of a technical failure. They lost it because nobody had taught the finance team what to look for. Training is the control. We treat this track with the seriousness it deserves.
Track four: Agentics for Business
The newest and most rapidly evolving track. Agents, here, means AI systems that can take multi-step actions: browsing, calling APIs, executing tasks, working across tools. Not chatbots that answer questions. Tools that do work.
This track is built for business leaders, operations managers, and team leads, not engineers. The goal isn't to teach people to build production agents. It's to teach them what agents are, what they can do today, what they can't, and how to scope a useful one for their team.
By the end of the day, participants have:
Built a working agent for a real task in their own workflow (using platforms like Microsoft Copilot Studio, Google's agent builder, or comparable no-code tools)
Understood the design pattern (trigger, plan, act, verify)
Identified which tasks in their function are agent-suitable and which aren't
Drafted governance questions they need their IT and risk teams to answer
This is the track where we see the most "lightbulb moments." Most business leaders have heard the word agent for a year and still don't know what one actually is. A day of building two or three agents fixes that gap permanently. For deeper specialist work, AI agents training is better delivered as a custom program targeted at the engineering team, but the business-facing version is exactly what an L&D team needs to scale awareness across a function.
How to choose between the four
A simple test:
If your team has Microsoft 365 Copilot licences and isn't using them: Microsoft Copilot training
If your team is on Google Workspace and Gemini is sitting unused: Google Gemini training
If your organisation has fraud, finance, or external-facing communications exposure: AI Scam Awareness
If your team is being asked to think about agents, automation, and what's coming next: Agentics for Business
Most enterprises end up running two or three of these in sequence over a year. Copilot or Gemini for general productivity, Scam Awareness for the whole organisation, Agentics for selected teams as the technology matures.
What good workshop delivery actually looks like
If you take one thing from this article, take this: the difference between a workshop that changes behaviour and one that doesn't is almost entirely in the delivery, not the curriculum.
The five things that separate workshops that work from workshops that don't:
Hands-on from minute one. If the first hour is slides, you've already lost. The good workshops have laptops open and tools in use within the first 15 minutes.
Real data, not fake data. Generic exercises about a fictional bakery teach generic skills. Real exercises with sanitised company data teach skills that survive contact with reality.
Live instructors who have shipped the thing. Not facilitators reading from a deck. People who have built agents, deployed Copilot at scale, investigated AI fraud, and can answer the questions the deck didn't anticipate.
Cohort size capped. Above 25 participants, the hands-on element collapses and the workshop becomes a webinar. We cap workshops at 20 by default, 12 for the technical tracks.
A pre-workshop conversation with the L&D buyer. What does this team actually do? Where are the friction points? What does success look like 60 days from now? Workshops that skip this step are generic. Workshops that include it are calibrated to the team in the room.
What to do on Monday
If you're the head of L&D, IT, or operations sitting on this question right now, here's the work:
Diagnose, don't prescribe. Before booking any AI workshop for business, figure out which of the four causes is your dominant adoption problem. If it isn't a skills problem, a workshop won't fix it.
Pick the track that matches the gap. Don't run a Copilot workshop because Copilot is the most-marketed product. Run the workshop that matches your actual capability gap.
Run a pilot cohort first. 15 to 20 people. One function. Measure behaviour change at 30 and 60 days. If it works, scale. If it doesn't, find out why before rolling it out to thousands.
Stitch the workshop into the system. Make sure governance, sponsorship, and process redesign are happening in parallel. The workshop is one input. It is not the whole answer.
Plan the second one before the first one finishes. Fluency isn't a one-day product. It's the result of repeated, escalating exposure over a year. Map the next two workshops before the first one runs.
