AI fluency across SafetyCulture's global workforce
A Sydney headquartered platform company brought more than 500 people across three continents onto the same AI foundation, taught alongside its own AI usage policy. A follow-up Agentics workshop extended the work for teams ready to build agents into their day to day.

The opportunity
SafetyCulture is a Sydney headquartered workplace operations platform used by organisations around the world, with teams across Australia, North America, Europe and Asia.
Leadership set a clear direction. Generative AI would be built into how the company worked, and both fluency and governance would be brought up at the same time. The company's AI usage policy was being carefully shaped, and staff across the business were already exploring the tools in their work. The considered call from the Head of L&D and the Director of Operations was to run training and policy together, so people learned to use the tools with the guardrails already in the room.
The challenge was reach. With teams spread across Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, time zones, formats and local context all pull in different directions, and it would have been easy to end up with regional teams on different footing. SafetyCulture wanted one consistent foundation across the whole company, delivered quickly enough that the training stayed relevant to what people were already doing.
Better People was engaged to build and deliver the program. Custom, moving quickly, and grounded in SafetyCulture's own policy and examples rather than off-the-shelf frameworks.

The approach: fluency first, then the policy in practice
Every session was built in two parts, in a deliberate order.
Part one
AI fluency
What generative AI actually is, how it arrives at an answer, where it is strong and where it needs a human check. Prompt engineering taught through a repeatable framework, and how to verify what comes back before you act on it.
Part two
Using AI at SafetyCulture
With that foundation in place, the training moved to the company's own AI usage policy, taught in context using real internal examples. Data privacy, safe experimentation, and what belongs in a prompt when working with company data and customer information.
The order matters. Fluency is what lets someone judge an answer rather than simply accept it, so every policy point taught afterwards had something solid to attach to. Running the training alongside the policy rollout also meant the sessions became a useful input into how it was refined.
Hands-on from the start
These are not slideshow sessions. Participants come with laptops and use them for most of the time they are in the room, or on the call.
They answer questions live, write their own prompts, run them, compare what different people got from the same starting point, and rework them. When a demonstration is on screen, they are doing it alongside the trainer rather than watching it happen.
Delivered globally, taught the same way
Three sessions covered more than 500 people across three continents. Roughly 70% of participants joined from Australia in person in Sydney, and the remainder joined live via Zoom from the United States and the United Kingdom.
The online sessions ran the same hands-on format as the room in Sydney. Participants wrote and ran their own prompts, compared results, and worked through the same SafetyCulture examples, so a team in the US or the UK finished on the same footing as a team in Sydney.
- Company-wide AI Fluency, in person in Sydney
- Company-wide AI Fluency, live via Zoom for US and UK teams
- Recorded for ongoing internal use as new starters joined
- Follow-up Agentics workshop, in person, for a mixed cohort of 30 people
Everything was taught on Google Gemini, the tool SafetyCulture had deployed across Google Workspace.
Built on SafetyCulture's own work
The demonstrations used SafetyCulture's own AI usage policy and real internal examples, so what people practised in the sessions was what they would apply in their work the next day.
Every session was recorded and handed back to the L&D team, giving SafetyCulture a reusable asset for onboarding new starters and reinforcing the material without booking further delivery.
Going deeper with the Agentics workshop
SafetyCulture returned for a second engagement: an in-person Agentics workshop for a mixed cohort of 30 people drawn from across the business.
The goal was practical. Equip them to build their own agents in Gemini for everyday work, on the same Google Workspace stack they were already using. Participants left knowing how to build agents that took friction out of their day to day.
What other enterprise teams can take from this
One program, delivered everywhere
Running the same hands-on format in person and online kept the whole global workforce on a single foundation, rather than leaving regional teams to find their own way.
Land training and policy together
Running both in parallel meant people learned to use the tools with the guardrails already in the room, and the sessions became a useful input into how the policy was refined.
Use your own examples, not generic ones
Real internal material and the company's actual policy meant participants were not translating abstract principles into their context. The context was already there.
Level-set the whole workforce before going deeper with anyone
Company-wide fluency first, then a more advanced workshop for teams ready to build on it. That order gives the deeper work something to attach to.
